A Lullaby Of Our Own

It seems like ages ago when I first started to sing my little girl to sleep. We had, what I feel, was a unique lullaby. We are the only people that I know who sing this lullaby. So, it is our lullaby-my Bayli's and mine.

When I first started singing it to her I sang along with the music. I know that the original artist sounded much more beautiful than me. I could have turned off my voice and let her create all of the magic, but where is the fun in that. Besides, I wanted to be the one singing to my baby. As I began to learn the words, I found myself replacing the word baby with Bayli. It was becoming our lullaby. As Bay began to talk, she started to sing along as well. And as she grew, she could sing the entire song with very few cues.

Now, as we have had Chase, we sing to him. But this lullaby just doesn't do. This is Bayli and mine-our special lullaby. We still sing it to him, but it is not the same. And, it is oh so difficult to re-replace Bayli with Baby. We tried Chasey, but it just isn't the same. So this lullaby will ever remain Bayli and Mine.

Butterflies go up and down
Fluttering above the ground
Butterflies sore through the sky
Someday 'Bayli' you will fly!

Close your little eyes
Sleep until you dream
Someday you will know
That you can be anything

Crickets chirp the whole night through
Playing songs for me and you
Crickets calling wing to wing
Someday 'Bayli' you will sing!

Close your little eyes
Sleep until you dream
Someday you will know
That you can be anything

Sunbeams fall from up above
Chasing clouds away with love
Sunbeams touch your heart and mine
Someday 'Bayli' you will shine!

  1. That is SO sweet! I googled it and found the tune because I wanted to picture it!

It's funny because I have a list of songs that I have sung to all of my kids, but each of them have a song that it THEIRS. It just fits them the best. And amazingly enough, Jacob's is "Sweet Child of Mine". I don't sing it with the rocker edge in my voice though!
Brooklyn's is the theme from sleeping beauty. Nathan hated me singing to him! (yeah I don't have a great voice) But his is a Sesame Street song (I don't want to live on the moon). I haven't found Chloe's song yet. We'll see. :)
